I had a back surgery in 1997 on my l4 disk, major nerve damage on my left side and my SI joint is distroyd. I just had my whole spine evaluated and now I have degenerative disk disease envolving all my lover disk and also had two disk fusion on my neck last month. the disk in my neck were completly colasped and were bone on bone with both herniated to the spinal cord.I have lived and worked with the pain in my back and hips and legs sence 1997. Thousands and thousands of hours on a heating pad and hot baths just to make another day. Now with my neck and all this extra pain I just caint do it any more, its just to much. up untill the neck surgery I didnt take pain meds, just aleve to take the edge off. Now nothing works. they tell me that there is so much intence damage in the first 6 disk in my lower back they can not be fixed. now I feel so lost. I am only 50 years old, but I feel 100.
thanks for listening

  • I am sorry to hear you are so much pain.

Are you on any kind of pain meds now?

I just started seeing a new pain management doc at a pain clinic, and he has helped me a lot. Having the right combination of pain meds has been a life saver for me. I still have quite a bit of pain but was in much worse shape before.

Do you see a pain management specialist or go to a pain clinic? If not, this may be something you could check into or chat with your surgeon/doc about it and see what they say.

I do not have bad lower back problems, mine only acts up occasionally, mine is all in my neck. My last MRI/x-rays showed I have DDD as well and mine are bone on bone as well.

I know how painful it is but you can't give up. I just turned 30 and as much as I want to give up sometimes I don't because although my body wants to, I don't.

    Hang in there.
  • Back in 1997 after my first back surgery I did go to pain management. They tried every thing, to no avail. The last thing they offerd was to cut the nerves causing the pain, so I would not feel it any more. but I said if you cut the nerve I won't feel if I'm going to far, so I did not let them do it. As far as pain meds I took my self off of everything. Most of the meds avalible are very bad for your liver. So I stoped it all. I only use Aleve, and advil. Which only takes the edge off and I just tolerate the rest. I dont know what else to do
