I have thoracic and cervical ddd. I had 2 bad accidents when i was 12 and have not had a pain free day yet and now I am 30... I had my neck fused with hardware on 3 levels 3 months ago. now the pain is way worse and i hate pills. I keep running into road blocks as far as getting some straight answers about this whole back and neck thing. the operation was supposed to relieve my pain and sleepless nites and all that it did is scar me and create even more pain. im a wreck i hurt all the time and i hate pills..... I have children and i have been a very active person all my life. i am physically fit aside from the pain.. I would really love to hear how this spine thing is gonna go down for me or atleast how it generally goes for ppl and what my options are and where i can find some good info about all of this. Im going bonkers. I appreciate your time thank you :)

  • Hi Barb....I am the same as you..My "Hardware" is on track but I still have pain..
Ive seen a Pain Specialist who has injected my facet and sacral joints all up my spine and hips and then has burnt the nerve endings..All up it gave me 6 months of managable pain until recently when I had to have further surgery..I go to the Pain man again this Tuesday where we will discuss putting a Stimulator in for thoracic pain as its unbearable now.

Take care and feel free to ask me anything if it helps you... :H
  • Yea I have a million questions :) Are all of your fusions with a cage? cuz mine is a swift plate and no cage. i have heard a million different things but mostly how cervical fusion should have plates on both sides .. i dont know how true that is and i hated being down from the operation but i gotta do something. My thoracic ddd is worsening by milestones each day and im afraid it wont be long till im barely walking. i already look like someone put the boots to me. Im worried about how they are gonna go about fixing my thoracic problems. How did your story come about?

  • Hi Barb...I got DDD from having chemotherapy a few years ago.My thoracic spine gets unbearable at times thats why Im going to ask the Specialist on Tuesday about a Stimulator in that area..

Im guessing your only young lke me , Im 42.. :H :H

All my fusions have cages, plates and some of the biggest screws Ive ever seen!!!!
The cages are packed with Human Bone Marrow and then they hopefully all fuse..My Doc wouldnt do any without the cage as it gives more movement and strength to the area..

Half of the medication they put us on after surgery makes you down and depressed so hang in there and contact me anytime...

  • I actually havent been taking the meds like im supposed to. i only take them when it gets so bad i cant bear it anymore. and yea im 30 too young for this crap lol
