Back Pain

Hello everyone, I had an L4-S1 Plif on 9/15 and still dealing with a lot of pain at night. Just wanting to know if anyone had a problem laying flat or on their sides this far out postop. Within about two hours after laying down, I am in excruciating pain from my back down through my legs. I land up in my recliner every night. I'm taking Lortab, Soma and Lyrica at night. Even tried taking ambien but the pain breaks through, not to mention it gooned me out when I got up in the night. Do my complaints sound familiar? I would appreciate any feedback.

  • Hello Mishy and Welcome to Spine-Health!!

I also had a PLIF done on 7-28-08 with instrumentation.....as of now I still cant lay on my back for ANY period of time or it is VERY VERY painful...I can really only sleep on my right side and that get very old very quick!!

My upper levels are going bad along with the cervical so my whole spine hurts!!

I am very sorry that you are hurting and I hope it starts feeling better really soon!!!

I will send healing thoughts your way!!

    Please keep us updated!!!

  • Compared with you, I am an 'old' spiney as my PLIF was in March this year.
I agree about finding it hard to lie in just about any position for very long, at the stage you are at. Things will get easier. ;)
What I find helpful is to place a pillow between my knees when I am lying on my side and under my knees when I am lying on my back. Have you tried that?

Other than that, I keep changing my position and even get up during the night for a little walk around to get more comfortable. Now, at 7 months, I am managing to sleep for longer than the 1 or 2 hours at first. In fact writing this post has made me realise that things have now got much easier. :D Thank you for that.

Keep up the good healing, both of you. :-)
