Do you have a bone growth stimulator? I also am a person that failed to fuse twice. I can only tell you what my surgeon told me"the hardware secures your neck but we need to try something else." I was having issues with pain and arm numbness along with ostephytes. After 5 surgeries I can finally say I fused.

  • hi susan, no i dont, and also i never had plates or that sort of hardwear put in i had a cage and some kind of bone from my neck i think. does it mean you still have to be doing nothing at all untill it starts to grow?

  • Just asking, if you have a cage what is holding that in place?
I'm 15 months post alif I have a cage with two screws holding it in place.currently useing a bgs my doc told me that I'm still on regular restrictions no blt with the reason being until I'm fused he doesnt want to stress the hardware.
    I hope that helped.
  • hi ya nothing is holding it in place i think theres 2 pins eitherside of it, but i thought thats just to mark where it is ,i assumed this was how it was ment to be done. i was sent home in a soft colar and it was after about 12 weeks that i was given a hard collar, i feel that the surgeon was cutting corners but i dont know.

I can tell you from my experience and remember this is my story and everyone is different. I was put on restrictions from almost everything until surgery. I had non- fusion along with 2 broken screws and my plate was backing out against my esophagus. So i had no choice surgery had to be done before it ruptured my esophagus. What has your surgeon said about the non-fusion? These are questions that I would only feel comfortable with my surgeon answering. Everyone is different.

  • hi susan, the consaltant has only been saying you must smoke, which i dont and never have they've given me scans and x rays and just keep calling me back every 6 weeks.
