Hi everyone,
I'm laying here, 10 days after a L4/5 microdiscectomy... and the pain in my left leg, and back, is as bad, if not worse, than ever. Trying to have hope, since its only been 10 days. Thank GOODNESS NCAA Basketball has been on all week... loving basketball, this has given me the opportunity to watch the entire tournament!

I'm trying hard not to be too sorry for myself, but at 36 years old, with a 2 year old son... its SO HARD not being able to walk well, not able to lift him, or do work, or help around the house. This feeling of uselessness combined with pain has reduced me to tears many times over the last 6 months. I was so hoping surgery would make the leg pain go away!

Ok, enough about me... how is everyone else doing? I'm pretty excited to find this forum, a place I can find people to talk to who can really relate to my experience. I am so eager to learn from you all.

Thank you,

  • Hi Benno,

First let me say welcome to spine-health. Have a look around and you will find many whom have had lumbar surgery and are in the process of recovery. As far as the pain if the pain is that bad you need to call the surgeon and let them know. They need to get the pain down enough so you can get up and start walking. Walking is the most important thing you can do at this point and time. I personally like the 10,000 steps program, you can find it on google. But your pain needs to be under control so you can begin walking. But one thing for sure you have found the right place as many of us can understand how frustrating the pain can be following surgery.

Just thought I would stop by and welcome you to spine-health. Keep us posted on how your doing and look forward to reading more of your post.
