I have some questions of posterior cervical surgery with instrumentation. almost three years ago I had anterior fusion with plate at C4-C5 (I think, i really need to find out). Two months ago I had posterior fusion, C4-C6, once again I think! have mainly done what the docs have told me to do.
Anyways tomorrow I am scheduled to go back to work. I had nine sessions of PT which I really don't think did anything at all. I think the PT was afraid he was going to hurt me so he was hands off and it was me doing some exercises.
In the morning I wake up pretty good but as the day goes on I start to develop pain, I guess it is all muscular pain where my head starts to be pulled forward and down. Sometimes I go to bed at night and i am almost crying in pain. I am a 58 year old male.
My concerns are whether I will get any backwards range of motion back and when will the pain go away. I cannot finish a drink without arching my back and sticking my belly out! I have pain killers but since they are narcotic, I don't want to over do it.
I have another follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Friday but he is more matter of fact and everything looks good. Tells me I had major surgery and it will take time.
Thanks for listening and I would appreciate hearing form anyone who has been through this.
