Painful "Catch" in neck after ACDF

I had a 4 level ACDF C3-4, C4-5, C5-6 & C6-7 done in Dec 09 using 4 Peek Prevail disk. Lately, like the last month or month and a half I have developed a catch on the left side of my neck. Sometimes I can feel when it is about to do it but then at other times I "catches" me totally off guard. Either way it hurts when it does it and then is sore for a while. I have tried to narrow it down to a certain movement and it seem to be when I go to look slighly up and slightly to the right. Has anyone esle ever had this or does anyone what is causing it and is it something to be concerned about. I wanted to call my surgeon but I know what they always say is to come in and now our insurance has changed so we have to pay a huge deductible first before the insurance pays and we dont have the money. So I wanted to check with you guys first.

  • I don't know that what I experience is the same as you, particularly because I haven't had cervical fusion, only lumbar fusion.

I do however, have cervical problems.
I have been getting (for years now), a sort of catching feeling, which is very painful and is followed by burning over the same area of my neck. Mine is caused by turning my head very slightly to the right, and the pain is in the left of my neck.

I have always assumed that everyone experienced this, but as with other pains that I get, I am starting to realise that it is only people with neck or back problems.

I will be very interested to hear what others think, and if anyone has been told what causes it.
