Anyone have any experience with Exalgo? I was on oxycontins and got really sick so doc put me on the Exalgo today. I havent ever heard of it. Comes with a great coupon to help with the copays and says it is hydromorphone and I only have to take it once a day which sounds great to me. Wondering if it gives anyone relief or what the side effects are from people with experience instead of just looking at the pamphlet

  • Still not sure what this med is. The pharmacy had to special order it which I've never had happen before either. Should be in Thursday. Now im half scared to take it. Starting to feel a little like a guinea pig

of Dilaudid. A quick google search revealed more negative comments about it than positive.

Dilaudid itself is know for being a fairly good med in an IV form only do to bioavailability issues (absorbtion) when taken orally.

It would seen that there are many other long acting opiate pain meds out there that have more proven efficacy .... but you know the pharmcutical industry... millions spent on getting new meds FDA approved and then millions more spent on getting doctors to start writing for it. I wonder how many Olive Garden lunches were spent to get the docs to start rxing this one??

Anywho ... I hope it provides you the relief that you need ... if not there are many other options availaable.

Wishing the best outcomes for you!!

  • Thanks, I googled it too and didnt like much about what I read. Guess if it doesnt work I can go back to the kadian and hopefully I've been off of it long enough that i will have a new set of receptors because it helped more than anything else
  • started the exalgo yesterday and first impression was that it made me a litte foggy so hopefully that goes away in a couple days. Other than that no negative effects which is great compared to how sick the Oxycontin made me feel. Not in as much pain so hopefully that keeps getting better to as my system gets more used to it. Didnt want to take it at all as dilaudid has a pretty bad reputation but gonna give it some more time before I decide. Wish i was back to the good ole days when a couple of aleve would help
