Menstruation after surgery...

Hi! My daughter is 15 and had her spine surgery (spine instrumentation and fusion) 2 months ago. But since then, she never had her monthly period. Is it normal to miss out menstruation after surgery? When should she expect it? Usually after how many months?

  • Sometimes with major surgery one can miss their cycle as her body is recovering from major surgery. Just make sure she isn't anemic as I was when I was 15 but especially if she lost a lot of blood during surgery.

I'm not a Dr. but am an RN just suggesting that it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask her Nurse Practioner or Dr. for a physical and get some blood-work done if the Dr. feels it's necessary or if your daughter is feeling more tired than usual or feeling weakness at all. One sign I had when I was 15 and anemic was tinnitus. Get a check up for her to help with these concerns you have. I pray your daughter heals completely from her surgery and bless you Mom for being so caring and there for your daughter. Charry

  • Charry, thanks. I'll bring her to her doctor. I've been reading a lot from forums to be able to help her. And it does... Thanks a lot.
