I have "Mild To Moderate DDD."
I got messed up 2 years ago by a chiropractor and still have ill effects from it. I am very much better off then when started but I have lingering effects that I am trying to sort out.

I had MRI's etc done and was basically told that even though I have DDD it's not causing my issues and they termed it all "Muscular."Seen 5 surgeons.

I have many good days not but still have bad days and this is the general pattern.

1.) Stiff neck, pain around the c7 vertebrae.
2.) Muscle pain that feels like bee stings around the upper and lower trap on both sides. SOmetimes right around the shoulder blade.
3.) Should joints feel loose.
4.) IF I am sitting on the couch and I put my arm up(say raise it) I get pins and needles very quick...
5.) My neck pops all the time. say move my head ever so slight, there is a pop.. pop. Just keeps poping.
6.) Crunching sound around the base of my skull sometimes this gets bad.

I want to start working out but am afraid I will make something worse... I feel like 2 yeras later I am finally getting strength back etc.

I am not really sure what I am dealing with here.

  • Have you tried physical therapy? If your pain is truly muscular in origin, then PT should help.

I had a fusion 7 months ago and although I feel much better, the residual pain is muscular. Ask your GP for a prescription and give it a try! :)

  • I've had popping and grinding in my neck before and after my surgery. I think a lot of people do here, but I can't explain why. It may not be the symptom of anything, but I'm not a doctor.

What does your doctor suggest you do? Like Lili, I would think that PT would be something to try, especially if it is indeed muscular.

It's interesting to hear that your problems started with a chiropractor. That's why we suggest many times that someone with disc problems, especially cervical, not go to a chiro unless approved by a spine specialist. The cervical area is nothing to mess with.

The pain in your traps, could these be muscle spasms? Do you have muscle relaxants? If they say that your pain is muscular, maybe those would help calm things down, along with the PT.

What kind of surgeons have you seen? Are they spine specialists? Just curious.

    Take care,
  • I have seen every possible doctor and type of doctor out there. it's almost 50/50 as to saying it is the cause of my issues and it is NOT the cause of my issues.

I have lots of muslce aches and pains all over my neck and back. and I do believe that the chiropractor messed me completely up. For 8months or so I just wanted to die it was so bad.

I don't know if the DDD was incidental or the cause. It sems to all be coming from my neck/scalenes then upper and lower traps etc. One surgoen says that he thinks its not my neck cause usually issues there go to you arms and legs and I really don't have issues there. Its around my shoulder blades, upper trap, neck, lower base of head etc...

so I don't know what to do.. I was told it's normal to have worn discs and mine were described as Mild/moderate

  • I also think my chiro mess me up. I had popping all the time before surgery. but it got better before surgery, now after surgery is all back.

Are you being able to concentrate in things you like?
Are you walking or doing any kind of exercise?
Are you in a lot of stress?

Maybe just maybe you are a candidate to read books about mindbody.

If I were you I would be so happy to have good days!!!!! I also think PT would be good. I would be so glad that is not a herniated disc pinching anything. I have read that DDD is normal and also read that it could be painful for a while. I think that the most important thing is that if you are being able to do stuff don't use all your energy in this use it for things you like.

I tell you this because one I was diagnose with this I put so many things n hold. I stop studying to my fullest and practically became an expert in this. Then you find out so many information that contradicts and other that does not.

You went to 5 surgeons so you don't need surgery that is a very good thing!

Well hope this help for something,
