It's been a while since I've posted but I always read the encouraging posts. There are days when I feel alone dealing with this pain. My back journey began in 1996 & 2004 from car accidents. At first meds and conservative treatment was helping then in 12/08 I had my 1st surgery L4/L5. The recovery was hard but I endured and pulled through. I did really well until 03/10. I had the same symptoms prior to my 1st surgery and again all conservative treatments failed. On 6/28/10 I had my second surgery L5/S1 with the same surgeon. So here we are present day. I've been in excruciating pain and testing confirmed I haven't fused from 2nd surgery. I'm nervous because I've moved to a different state but rumor has it that my surgeon is awesome. Of course I questioned why I didn't fuse..... I'm not a smoker but was advised some anti inflamatory meds can hinder fusion. Hmmmm didn't know that. Anywho I'm hoping all goes well and the 3rd time is a charm

  • than a week away! Wishing you the best with your surgery. Glad to hear that you have a great surgeon on your side. Are you all ready at home for when you return? (items at a good height to avoid bending, easy meals in freezer, grabber and other items to help with recovery)

Try to do something special for yoursef in the upcoming week.

  • Thanks Karen! Everything is moving quickly. I found out on 11/28 & scheduled on 12/6. The hospital I'm going to is Emory Orthopedic & Spine so they specialize in spinal care which is comforting. I have all my post op items. I plan on getting a mani/pedi over the weekend.
  • Surgery comes up quickly, doesn't it? If only the recovery seemed to go so fast...

I'm wishing you luck and hope the third time is the charm. I'm sitting here at work with a very painful L4/5, I think due to barometric pressure or the cold and snow we're having.

Anyway, good luck and we'll see you on the other side. Until then, post anytime you need a shoulder.

  • Hi

Hope this third surgery goes well for you on the 6th.

Terrific that you're going to a specialist spine hospital where you should get the best care.

Do let us know how you're going post-op and if you need support, you only have to ask.
