Well as the title says I am going to have to go in for a multi level ACDF probably in June. My pain specialist said that I should probably have the bulging discs removed as well because the discs that are huge problems now were just bulging last year like the ones on the scan and progressed extremely fast. Instead of leaving them in there and taking the risk that the same thing will happen again since the neurosurgeon will already be in there I guess we are just going to take them out and get rid of any future risk including a possible second multi level ACDF.

So here are the results of my C.T scan. I really have no clue what all this means except what a bulging disc is and i assume a "protrusion" means a herniated disc. so if anyone can give me some pointers as to if I am right and what the rest means that would be much appreciated!!!...lol

TECHNIQUE: CT was performed of the cervicaf spine without
contrast images reformatted sagittally and coronally.

No abnormality is noted the craniocervical junctron.

C1-C2: Unremarkable. There is no fracture or destructive process seen.

C2 is intact.

C2-C3: There is severe disc bulge but no disc herniation Moderate central and foraminal stenosis seen.

C3-C4: There is severe disc bulge but no disc herniation Moderate central and foraminal stenosis seen.

C4-C5: There is severe central disc protrusion with significant central stenosis foraminal narrowing is moderate.

C5-C6: There is severe central disc protrusion contacts and flattens left ventral cord surface there is moderate central stenosis. Foraminal narrowinq is significant.

C6-C7: There is severe disc protrusion with osteophyte to left flattening left ventral cord surface is severe central and severe right foraminal narrowing

C7-T1: level unremarkable.

That's about all I can gain from it. lol. I do note that it is described as "severe" from C2-C7 so that usually means trouble. I wish you luck with your consult and future surgery. Try to get more than one opinion from a great NS or ortho spine surgeon. Sometimes it isn't best to do it all at once (or so I was told).

My first NS wanted to do three or four levels but the second one I saw only did one. I worry that it may have been a mistake but so far, so good. He did the one that was causing the most problem and the others will be addressed if/when they need. That saves a lot of ROM. My ROM is better now than before the surgery.

Welcome to SH. Please let us know how it goes.
    Good luck
  • My pain specialist said that C4-C7 ADCF needed but I am debating asking the neurosurgeon to takeout C2-C3 & C3-C4 as well since less than a year ago only one of the discs was mildly herniated. Since my neck seems to be falling apart at an extremely fast rate I am wondering if having the discs that are only bulging at this point will save me a second ADCF in less than a year because of the rate of deterioration. I know a 5 level fusion is a horrible and major surgery to have but I am so afraid of having to have a second ADCF surgery let alone the first one :-(
