Debating getting another fusion surgery

I had C4/C5 C5/C6 two level fusion done in January 2011 and while my neck pain has almost gone away, my shoulder pain has gotten worse. I have just started on gabapentin and was given a trial bottle of Lyrica (75mg) which both has helped a little. Do I ask for a higher dose of Lyrica (200mg) taken twice a day which is insanely expensive or do I just get C3/C4 fused which my doctor recommends. My friends hubby has similar pain and is taking 200mg of lyrica so I am thinking that might work for me too.

He is confident that my shoulder pain will certainly go away as I had a nerve block done two months ago that didn't make the pain go away completely, but did work for 5 hours and the doctor feels that fusion in the same location will fix me for good.

As of right now I'm going to give my pain management doc one more month and ask for a higher dose of lyrica and see how I feel. Surgery will be cheaper in the long run because if it does work then I won't have to go to the pain doc and get expensive pain meds for the rest of my life.

My biggest fear is that another round of fusion doesn't work and further complicates my situation. I also have a lot of bone spur growth because the arthritis in my neck is really bad.

Thank you for any replies. I am extremely frustrated as I was rear ended and feel that life has been extremely unfair and talking to my girlfriend and others isn't the same compared to someone who has been through what I have been through.
