I feel like I'm getting closer to needing a 2 level fusion L4/5/S1. I'm not sure my leg pain is bad enough to need surgery at this point but.... What do you wish you would have thought of before deciding to go ahead with surgery? My microdisectomy was not painful at all. I think my herniation was 12mm before surgery so I was in agony, surgery was nothing compared to the pain before. I know fusion will not be that easy, but am I kidding myself to think that my quality of life will improve after surgery?
I know that it can cause issues at other levels, my doctor is very hesitant to do a 2 level on someone my age. He has admitted we are out of options. He would like me to hold on as long as i can, but if I'd only had one level he would have already gone ahead with surgery. Hes hoping with some of the clinical trails going on there would be better options (no fusion). But he's not sure how long it will take for them to become FDA approved.
I'm still able to work full time ( I sit all day) but I'm not able to have a social life. Is there anyone out there that felt better after a 2 level fusion?
