In 2003 I was diagnosed with Acute Osteomyelitis with full involvement of t7&t8 vertebra; I was literally at a 40 degree angle with compression of the spinal cord. I had a emergency thorcotomy with removal of t7&t8 vertebra and a cage was placed. I later was fused from t1-t12. I have had considerable pain issues and recently severe diaphragm spasms, with difficulty breathing. My Osteomyelitis was due to 14 reconstructive right knee sx. Currently I am for the first time seeking medical help through the county due to not being able to work any longer. I have worked in the medical field for 15 yrs and now find myself having to justify and explain not only my disability but my pain. ( my first md visit was with a RN practitioner, not a md and all she said was " your spinal injury is highly unusual, are you sure it happened the way you explained" I would love to hear from a spine md as to what I may expect and how I can explain my pain issues. Thanks Angela ;D

  • All you can realy do is tell it like it is, You are the only one who knows what you are feeling and a spine specialist will have to understand, Often they cant totaly explain the reasons for the pain as spine is so complicated,
So even if they cant explain the reasons sometimes you just have to push to get answers,
Pain specialists often work with the spine specialist to do injections to find what levels are causing most of the issues,

I am not sure why anyone would question if it realy hapened like you explained it hapened as it dont mater how it hapened, What maters is its messed up and there job is to do there best to fix it or help manage it,

    Good luck
