Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and I just posted my first post

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and would like to introduce myself. I'm Chase, I joined because I have an upcoming fusion surgery. It sounds as though I'll have plenty of time in the near future during my recovery. Anyhow, any help on my posting about a thoracic fusion would be great. Have a great week.

  • Can you tell us a bit more about your need to have surgery.
    Were you in an accident?
What levels will you have fused?

Thoracic problems are not as common as lumbar and cervical.
Have you tried conservative treatments like Epidural Steroid Injections?
I have thoracic problems too, but not surgical. My surgeon has said we can try these injections, but at the moment I am coping without them. Thoracic fusion is a difficult surgery, but there are many who have got their lives back again this way.

    What date is your surgery?
There is a thread of people who are having surgery in October.

This is a friendly place with great support from people who understand the pain of spine problems.
  • I didn't have an accident, it's been more of a long onset. It got much worse while I was deployed in Iraq. I guess the body armor took its toll on my body. The levels that they're going to fuse are T4-T10. They have to use "full hardware" since I have Osteopenia (soft bones). The surgery is scheduled for 11/5. I've been on hydro condone for 4+ years. I've had a discectomy at the T6-T7 level. I tried steroid injections in the discs, but that didn't help much. I also had a discogram to verify which levels were causing the pain. I have 2 levels that are causing the pain, and discs that are leaking as well. Anyhow hope everyone has a good week. Thanks

  • I see you have found the thread for thoracic problems. You are more likely to hear from other sufferes at this level on that thread. I hope you will get some reassurance. Take care and please do let us know how you get on.
