Please help!

I just found this forum, I am so depressed I just don't know what to do. To be brief, I had a five level fusion with instrumentation May 10th of 2011. The surgery failed, I have degenerative disk disease, osteoarthritis, failed laminectomy syndrome, cervical spinal stenosis with myelopathy, kyphosis and radiculopathy. I was out on leave from my job due to excruciating pain, because I could not return to work by Dec 15th I was terminated. My doctor has declared me disabled and unable to work. I am a single female, I have applied for STD, SSD, SSI, Medicaid and food stamps. I have also cashed out my 401K, which was not much. I have been in survival mode for 15 yrs. and have lived with pain during that time. I thought my divorce after 25 yrs. of marriage was the worst thing I could ever go through, WRONG... What does one do? How does one live? I have creditors call ing wanting their money?

  • The only advice I can give is to just keep holding on. A lot of people of this forum have lost everything because of their chronic pain. I am one them. I just graduated college only to work at my well paying job for four months before I injured my back and had my first fusion. My employer terminated me cause I could not come back when they wanted. I have had to file bankruptcy on my bills. I have 60,000 in student loans on a degree that is basically worthless. Honestly I am shocked that I am still married, cause my hubby so stressed thru this. I am having a third fusion sometime in the early part of next year. The only good that has happened to us is that I have been approved for disability on the first try, but it has been sent for review so I have to wait another thirty to sixty days before I will know when I start receiving benefits. There is also a very small chance they can overturn my approval during this review, but my lawyer says it isn't likely. I am still worried about it though. I really need the money. I know my advice doesn't sound like much, but I am sure others on the forum will agree. Things will get better with time, just try to have a positive attitude and take things day by day.

Discectomies 05/08 and 04/11, fusions L4-5 Feb 9,2012 and L3-L4 June 28,2012, Staph infection washout 3/2/2012, Bulged L5-S1. SCS trial on January 17th, 2014, which was a success! Permanent SCS on February 20th.
