Hello to everyone reading this. My name is Nicole, but i also answer to Rabbit just as much
I have been having back pain & sciatica since the end of July and really needed to talk to people that are going through the same things. Family can be supportive but they can't really understand completely unless they've been through it.
I have a herniated disc between my L5/S1 vertebrae. I injured it during Aquafit on July 28th. I think it actually started a couple months earlier, but as long as i didn't do a certain move (jump up and reach for my toes with extended legs. essentially, a pike position), it didn't hurt. It wasn't until July 28th that it fully herniated complete with severe bolts of pain shooting down my leg.
I initially had an X-ray (showed nothing), a CT Scan (possible herniation but too blurry & grainy of a pic to be sure), and finally an MRI Nov 6th to confirm the herniation. I have been to a neurosurgeon and am scheduled for microdiscectomy surgery as it's been 5 months and i'm still in severe pain. I am currently taking 15mg Oxycodone plus 325mg Acetaminophen 4x a day and 600mg Gabapentin 3x a day. The Gabapentin I just started a couple weeks ago when i visited the neurosurgeon. He was quite surprised that i had not been put on Gabapentin already. The general consensus is that IF the Gabapentin does well enough to reduce my pain, we'll opt not to have the surgery as there are additional risks to the surgery because of my other health problems.
The sciatica pain has improved a fair amount, although I am still reliant on the medication i listed above to keep the pain mostly at bay. I would say most days i'm at a 3 out of 10, painwise. But heaven help me if i forget to take my pain meds!
So i think that's about it for my current back issues.
A little about me: I'm married, no kids and we're in our 40's. I have many health problems including being overweight, have fibromyalgia, Type 2 diabetes, high BP and asthma. But that notwithstanding, I love to laugh, to chat and to enjoy the precious time i have with my husband and our two cats. Looking forward to getting to know y'all and finding and providing comfort to and with each of you.
