This is the first time I have written on a forum but I love reading everyone's advice so I thought I would see what people would say.
I am a 24 year old female (25 next month) and have been suffering from chronic lower back pain for nearly 2.5 years. To put it simply I have nevered injured my back or had an incident I can recall that started the dull ache a few years ago.
When it first started i saw a physio who kept just giving me stetches which did nothing.
My first doctor ordered and X-ray of the lower back which returned no results, this was pretty much 2 years ago.
Since then I have gone to a different doctor who tried dry needling on me to dertmine if it was a muscle or spinal problam. I cried with the amount of pain and he said it was a muscle problem. Hence I was sent to recieve remedial massage which i continued for 8 weeks with no relief, this was done one year ago.
The doctor then suggested to do pilates. I joined a physio supervised pilates class for two sessions a week and continued this for 6 months - also with no pain relief. In the middle of this period my doc sent me for a CT scan which showed 3 minor bulging discs L4-5 and the 2 discs above that one (sorry I cant remember their name). At the later end of this period the doc prescribed Endep tablets for pain relief which just made me drowsy.
As the previous two methods didnt work I thought I would do something drastic and try a musculoskeltal therapist for 6 weeks, he tried bowen therapy, schenar treatment and several stretches. I started this in around October last year and have now developed sciatic pain mainly on the left side in the buttock. The doctor and therapist all believed I had piriformis syndrome.
Again I went back to the doc who finally gave me an MRI which came back with facet joint inflammation and he has now ordered facet joint injections. I am currently seeing a different physio who believes the MRI showed the L4-5 disc was bulging as well as the facet joint problem. On top of this the physio believes my pelvis is extrememly unstable and I have SI joint problems as well as my upper back is very immobile.
I am currently doing pilates at home everyday, taking numerous fish oils and pills etc, walking for 30 mins everyday and seeing the physio once a week. I am in Pain 24/7 and have been for the last 2 years, it's just the last few months the sciatic pain has occurred and seems to be worsening very quickly.
No one will diagnose me with anything and they say I'm too young to see a specialist. Im booked in for the injections in 3 days but I have lost all hope in all of these strategies. Does anyone have a similar situation and is there a possiblity of living a pain free life?
