Sick with flu while recovering from L5/S1 fusion

Hi everyone, I am new here. 33yr old female mom of 2.... and have caught a nasty flu/cold bug. I am coughing and sneezing a lot and it hurts SO bad!! I had my fusion on October 18th of 2012 so i am 3 months out but it still hurts very bad. Is there anything that I can do to help it not hurt so much? Pain meds only help so much and cough meds aren't helping much either. I just don't want it to mess my back up. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

    Saw your posts, welcome to the site. I am 4 mo post op from my MicroD. Recovery has been such a roller coaster ride I cannot image adding a cold/ flu into the mix on top of everything else! Unfortunatley I dont have any advice for you other than the standard take it as easy as you can. I will say that even 4 mo out of my op I still have problems so its not surprising that you are still having pain 3 mo out from a much larger surgery.

    Good Luck, I hope it gets easier for you sooner than later!!!
    L5S1 REMOVED herniation. Years of pain & compression. Microdiscectomy complete!! Trying to be super smart & safe with recovery!
  • Gosh I hope you feel better!! I haven't had a fusion and I simply can NOT TAKE coughing one bit. I did take codeine, it helped slightly, didn't take the total cough away. Try to not do much and keep pillows propped up under your head IF you can
  • i have a bad cold right now and 12 months ago i had the worst operation ever the dreaded ALIF fusion ..so i know what you are going through .{i am still in a hell of a lot of pain even 12 months on}
