I went to visit a lawyer I know yesterday to discuss possible litigation for the BMP used during my 2 level ALIF. This lawyer had a four level PLIF a few months ago. He said that his surgeon has done a bunch of research on the BMP2 and recommends that the actual spacers with BMP2 sponges be REMOVED immediately! I said, "you do realize that would mean breaking the bone in my back to get the spacers out, right?" He again said the surgeon said it has to come out. From what the lawyer said the surgeon told him was that people who had the BMP2 will eventually end up in a wheelchair.
I am a realist and have been in the medical industry for a long time. I know not to trust anything that I don't hear for myself, so I'm trying to get an appointment with this particular surgeon. Has anyone else heard this about BMP2? The thought of having another major surgery is not very comforting!
