Cervical Surgery

I have been told I need neck (C4-C-5) surgery, but my GP strongly recommends against. I have occasional numbness in my right hand/arm. I have had an MRi and have the occasional numbness for about 2 months. the only things I can't do without pain is run, lay flat in an MRI, lay my neck back to have my hair washed and sit at the computer for more than an hour. I can walk briskly for about an hour and cover about 4 miles, any faster and it becomes painful. I feel great and would like to get a balanced second opinion.

  • I have had 2 operations on cervical spine; first one in September 2010 was ACDF C3/4/5 then in December 2011 Posterior CDF C5/6/7 plus plating to facet joints. I am still suffering with severe neck pain despite extensive physiotherapy and have developed severe tremors in both hands. My Spinal Surgeon has now referred me to a Spinal Surgeon who specialises in Neurology. Personally I would stay clear of any operations to the spine as I now feel more pain than I had prior to operation in 2010.

To get a second opinion I would recommend you see a Neurologist. Take care and do not spend too much time at the computer as I find it aggravates my pain. Good luck.
