New member with disc bulge?

Hello everyone,

In hopes to find a cure for myself, i've been to many doctors, PT, chiro's, Massage therapist, etc... After getting all four of my wisdom tooth extracted on Thanksgiving week 2012, i started to feel pain about 2 weeks after oral surgery, probably didn't notice pain because I was on Oxycoden/Vicoden. From this time til now, my pain has been crazy. Getting sharp pain in lower back, L4/L5 area and also by my butt muscle. Getting at most 2-3 hours of sleep a night due to very uncomfortable positions. Done tons of research like piriformis symdrome, disc bulge, pinch nerve, list goes on. I know there isn't no quick answer to cure my condition but i have exhaust most of my flex spending and is expecting our first baby next month. Any advise is appreciated on what exercises or techniques to reduce pain so i can have a good night sleep with no more medication (i think my liver will thank me).

Male, age 25, no history of any disease.
Picture below is my MRI results.

  • Do a search on exercises for sciatica. I know most of the time these can heal on their own a lot depends on how much you are able to do currently. Can you walk, stretch etc or is it too painful? Sometimes a dose of steriods can help with the inflammation as well. Motrin etc too helps BUT its the kind of medicine that you have to take continually for it to really work(personally never helped me any)
  • thanks for the reply nkay. As for my physical movements, walking hurts and I just hold in the pain (mostly lower back). My doctor prescribed me a oral steriod and muscle relaxant which helped as well. I just started a chinese message therepy this week and by far this is helping me most. The chinese message consist of deep tissue ligament message which releases the tense ligaments to relief any pain. My pain is from my lower back then moves to my groin area and down my leg. This pain creates discomfort at night when I sleep. On my third treatment tonight!
  • Keep at it!!!!! There are certain conditions that need to be met before you are even a candidate for surgery(if you chose) Be patient, listen to you back. There's a balance between resting and too much rest I have do definitive answer for that. I know when I first blew out my disc walking was IMPOSSIBLE.. But I wound up needing surgery.

    Heal up!
  • Buy the Mckenzie book treat your own back. The exercises in this will help a lot!
