Hello all. I'm 28 years old and have had 3 surgeries on my lower back already. Surgery number 2 really put the hurt on me. A 4 level spinal fusion with the rods bolts and the works. Since March 1, 2011 I have been on a steady dose of narcotic pain killers. I started out after my fusion taking diladid pills. I was in worse pain after surgery than before. Then I moved down to Perkoset 10mg every 4 hours. Finally got down to taking Hydrocodone 7.5 until I had to have surgery again for a spinal fluid leak 6 months after my fusion. Then I started all over again on the perkosets.
Today I'm just a few days from being 1 year post OP on my fusion surgery. I have to take Hydrocodone 7.5 4 times daily. That's 120 pills a month! I have been on this dosage for several months now. I'm getting to the point where these are not enough. I can't sleep at night because my back aches so bad.
So my question is for those who are worse off and been there, where does the pain killers stop???? Surely after this long there's no way I'm not addicted. I've never abused my medicine but the time frame I have been taking them and the amount I take there is no way I can't be addicted. Doc says there's nothing else he can do for me. So what do you do? Is there nothing else to do besides become a pain killer addict?? I'd never taken anything stronger than BC headache powder until these back surgeries started. It just sucks I guess. I've always prided myself in being one of the few in my generation that had never done drugs or even tried anything. Now here I am popping pills 4 times a day and feeling like there not strong enought to kill the pain.
