myelopathy after hardware failure

I am experiencing severe myelopathy symptoms (weakness) after finding out screws have broken from a previous cervical fusion 6 yrs ago. Anyone else experienced this? Am seeing 2 surgeons in the next few weeks. One was puzzled over my symptoms. The screws (3 out of six) are holding a plate, which apparently has loosened as a result.
So what I am asking is: Has anyone else had myelopathy symptoms like mine after hardware failure?

I along with you had broken screws which was causing the plate to back out and pressing against my esophagus. I went straight into surgery for removal and replacement of plate and screws. Once the hardware was corrected my myelopathy went away
    Good luck

Thanks Susan. I don't really have the esophagus problem (not yet anyway). Did you have the weakness in arms and legs like I do? It's like the weakness from before my first surgery, only worse. Two doctors I have now seen don't recognize that this is all from this plate loosening. This is driving me crazy.
  • Susan-Your reply to my PM was really helpful. If you have a chance, look at my reply back to you. Thanks, Steve
