I've been dealing with pain in my right butt/leg for over 3 years now without a clear diagnosis. At first it was intermittent, and all MRIs and x-rays were negative, so I was diagnosed with piriformis syndrome. Went to physical therapy, that made the pain worse. Now the pain is constant and has gotten more severe, and the new ortho says that the MRI for piriformis is negative and all my symptoms are consistent with a pinched nerve in the L5 vertebra, but my MRI doesn't show a pinched nerve.
I'm having an EMG nerve test next week. But I have a sneaking suspicion that, like all the MRIs and x-rays, that's not going to tell the doctors anything new. I've seen 4 specialists over this problem and been to PT, and am taking pain medication that I would love to stop taking forever, but I can't be off it for more than a few hours without crying from the pain.
Anyone have any ideas of what I should do now? What if this doctor finds nothing wrong with my nerve test? How should I proceed in getting some answers?
