I started having severe pain in Oct 2011 and finally had nerve studies and MRIs in Aug 2012 which confirmed both cervical and lumbar bulging disks. Cervical is much worse than lumbar as it is compressing spinal cord.
I've been tryinbg to delay cervical fusion into late 2013, but sitting at desk working on computer is driving me crazy with pain and burning/tingling. Left arm is definitely worse than right, but they both hurt all the time. The pain increases when I'm in a sitting position. It only takes about an hour before I am in a lot of pain and near tears.
I also have fibromyalgia. I saw the fibro specialist today and he advised me to have the surgery soooner rather than later. Particularly to reduce the chance of or reduce possible nerve damage. So I've got a call in to my surgeon's office to be scheduled for ACDF of C5-6 and C6-7.
There seems to be more stories of ACDF failures than successes. I have had several other surgeries, but I am terrified of having spine surgery.
Can anyone who has been thru this give me any advice and share any thing to put my mind at peace?
