There is a lot of information on the site if you press the 'conditions' button.

  • Hello,

I'm new to the sight and wanted to say hi to everyone.

Diagnosed with degenerative disk disorder in 2009

I started having problems in 2009 and had X-rays in 2009, new one in 2013 showed further degeneration, MRI showed herniated disk L5/S1 in 2009 and reconfirmed with a new MRI in March 2013

I tried conservative treatments on the original flareup/start in 2009. Doctor recommended surgery then after conservative treatments failed but I tried to avoid surgery and I wrestled with it off and on and I waited until really bad flare up in March/2013 that just got worse until I could barely function. Was almost falling due to electricity shooting through leg and experiencing weakness in left leg. I had constant pain in left buttock and upper leg. I also noticed stumbling with that leg as well. I finally had to go for surgery.

    I just had an open laminectomy/discectomy L5/S1 and I'm 3 days post-op

I'm currently in pain in lower back at surgery sight, but leg pain/sciatica has improved greatly so far. I'm just hoping nerve damage is minimal because I waited almost 5 years before surgery.

I look forward to getting information and helping anyone else that has a similar condition.

This site is a great place for information and support for other sufferers.

There is a thread for May surgeries which you could post in and get to know others who are also in the early stages of recovering from spine surgery.
I am glad to hear that the leg pain and sciatica has improved.

I had a laminectomy and fusion 3 years ago and I found that my sciatica in both legs was gone on waking up. The surgery also helped a lot with the lower back pain.

Good luck in your continued healing. :-)
