no real back pain just severe sciatica for over a year

im new to this forum world, im a 31 year old, fit active male, who was diagnosed a few years ago with mild disc bulge l5s1,since then i delt with mild back pain from time to time no real issues, fast forward in may 2012 the pain (siatica) in my left leg mostly buttuck area came about, i have been dealing with it for over a year now, mind u no back pain or neurological weaknesses, primarily just sharp pain in my butt all day long. a few new mri' s revealed a 1cmm disc herniation at l5s1, all drs orthopedic/ neurosurgeon want to to surgery (microdisectomy) i refuse for fear of making me worse. i eat healthy tried every vitamin natural anti inflammatory supplement out there, acupuncture, pt, art,epidural shots, i take 800 mg motrin two to three times a day with tramadol the only way i can get by. sometimes i supplement the motrin with tylenol. i can do almost anything i have no muscle weakness, i can run, but i dont, i do have trouble sleeping, sometimes take muscle relaxers to sleep, my concern is now that im past the one year mark and its not going away is taking motrin and tramadol every day going to be worse for me over all then just giving in and doing the surgery???? , its totally affecting my quality of life but i read about a lot of people who's conditions are far worse then mine idk what to do

  • I have had for 2.5 yrs and its horrible at night and sometimes painful during day but not often. I had shot in l5s1 and it was great painfree 3 weeks and its back! I'm disappointed. No answers just wanted to say I understand. I have very little back pain also.
