Hey all...my name is joey palermo and I am 20 years old, I am suffering from chronic neck and shoulder pain...

I have been working out for the past 3 years of my life at goodlife fitness in ottawa, about one year ago I slowly started to develop some shooting pains in my shoulder (more specifically the front deltoid) not thinking much of it I continued to workout...

5 months had past and I started to get concerned because It was still there and slowly started making my neck tight and uneasy...I sought help from a chiro in my area...

He did some active release therapy and acupuncture which didn't really help just numbed the pain a bit, so I went to phsyio, they said it was rounded shoulders but I thought it was fishy that it was only hurting on one side...I started doing the reccommended exercises and to of no avail it started to get worse...

All the while still working out because I was hard headed and was making great progress in the gym and thought the pain would subside, I really started to feel (crooked) like my center of gravity was off...Any overhead movements would KILL my shoulder and my neck would start to get tighter and tighter as the reps went on...so I stopped with all overhead movements...

I saw a TMJ specialist who claimed it was my jaw...so I got a splint put in that cost me thousands and It didnt help. I went for chinese acupuncture, massage therapy, MAT, and nothing was helping. Only band-aiding the issue. 2 months of in and out of therapy nothing was working and so I stopped my training.

I have seen 2 chiros and 2 physios, mri of neck showed nothing and xray looks normal (slight forward head posture)...

The pain im dealing with is, tight scalenes, shooting pain when I raise my arm, weakness in both hands and sharp pains in my left shoulderblade (This is all left side related)...When I look at my neck I can see two veins pemanantely on the anterior left side...buldging. Im out of ideas and dont know what to do...

My posture is getting worse because I cant train and any sort of rehab exercsies hurt my neck. I tried doing retraction stuff for posture but my arm goes numb and my neck hurts too much...

Does anyone have any idea on how to help me?

  • Have you seen a chiropractor? You could have alignment issues causing muscle spasms and pinched nerves. Make sure you see a reputable chiropractor. I had to go through two before I found my answer. Good luck!

Hi joey, still are you suffering from neck pain and shoulder pain, i experienced with neck pain, i was at 22 years, in that time i caused by neck pain. I used Biofreeze get for instant pain relief; Biofreeze gel gave instant neck pain relief. I started using regularly Biofreeze gel. I stopped after one week, however pain didn’t repeat again. Biofreeze gel is a best supplement for joint pain.
  • It is a gel used by therapist and chiropractors and has a pain relieving quality. Biofreeze provides temporary relief the duration probably has a lot to do with the individual and the severity of pain.
I use it off and on but it doesn't touch the neck, shoulder, arm and hand pain I'm dealing with now.
Joey, I would try and see a physiatrist they work a lot with the whole bone/muscle structure and may be able to help you figure out what is going on. There are many possibilities to include bad posture, thoracic outlet syndrom, trapped nerves on and on the lists goes. There are many things that the MRI won't show that other testing might show like EMG or more invasive testing such as myelogram. Don't give up, keep searching the answer is out there.
