Back pain implants

I am being offered a new procedure where a plastic wire is embedded into my spine, this is attached to a matchbox sized receiver in my belly with an on/off button I control in my hand
I have been told only done once in UK.
Anyone out there heard or had done to them?
I'm also being told, although not tested on humans, but there will be a pain relief procedure, where chips are attached to the spine and work similarly to what I previously stated.
I'm just thinking that is less intrusive as the orriginal and is it worth waiting for?
