I'm new to this site, well this is my first post but have been reading for awhile, and wanted to reach out. I had a major spinal fusion when I was 13 from Idopathic Scoliosis (curvature was 72 degrees) and have struggled with back issues my entire life. Now at the age of 34 I recently had a cervical disc replacement at c5-c6 and am currently recovering. Because so much of my spine is fused my cervical spine has been taking on all my movement over the years and my vertebrae are now worn out. Before the cervival arthoplasty was approved by the FDA I was told there was nothing that could be done for me at such a young age as the docs didn't want to do more fusions as it would just create more issues and limit my movement severely. So I just put up with the pain and closely followed the disc replacement trials. Finally (finally!) this year my insurance approved the procedure and I had it on Aug 14th.
I've looked and it seems there doesn't seem to be a lot of recent posts by people who have had cervical arthoplasty done - maybe I missed you but if you're out there I'd love to chat and compare stories. Also, I'm happy to talk to anyone curious about the procedure.
