Chronic neck pain, no end in sight

Hi all. I'm new to the forum but looking for some advice and support although I am very lucky to have a wonderful family as support.

Around a year ago I injured my neck while at work. What seemed like a relatively common injury has changed my life. The injury was a sudden jerk to my neck that has been described as a whiplash injury. At the time I heard a loud pop and my neck froze. It took weeks to get some movement back and I am now at the point where I can still not fully move my head. The pain is relentless. Worse some says than others but always there. It goes down the left side of my neck and into my shoulders normally a stabbing but can also be an ache, I suffer daily from headaches and weekly from migraines. I feel like I go in a circle of pain, spasms, headache and repeat. I have seen my doctor and a pain specialist. Have had MRI scans which were negative. I've had a year of physio and acupuncture and steriod Injections in my c3 and c4 left facet joints. I am booked into gave steriod injections in my top neck muscles in 2 weeks but I'm not hopeful it will help.

I'm at risk of loosing my job, I hardly go out with my friends anymore and I'm exhausted as I hardly sleep. No Damage can be seen and all the doctors keep saying is its muscle Damage and some people suffer pain for their whole life after injury. I'm interested if anyone else has had any similar experiences? I feel so frustrated that I have no diagnosis ?

Is this really what I have to get used to. , for info I have tried every anti depressant and pain medication that is possible and none have helped.

Thank you

Have you been seen by a Ortho Spine Surgeon or a Neurosurgeon, If this is WC demand that you be able to change doctors and go to one of the specialist above. I also injured my neck about 19 months ago at work, and am having a 4 Level ACDF in 10 days. I know how the WC system can be, perhaps you are not on WC because you state you have seen your doctor. If that is the case talk to your doctor about referring you to a specialist. Don't stop fighting until you find out the cause of your pain and symptoms. Be the advocate for your health. Good Luck in your journey and we are all here for support.

  • Hi Irene. At this time I have only seen my doctor and a pain specialist as they are pretty much telling me there is no damage and I do not need surgery. They appear to have written me off as chronic pain. I'm in the uk so not sure if this differs from where you are. Thanks
