Hello...My name is Dianne and I have never used any type of site like this. Forgve me please if I make any boo boos.

Though I am only 5 days post op I am getting very frustrated. I had an ACDF(C5, 6, &7) along with a disc replacement(C4&5) on 10/15/13. Before my surgery I had severe right shoulder, elbow, arm, wrist, and hand pain and pins/needles sensations, My right hand also itched like crazy, I was dropping things, I had a lot of dfficulty typing. I couldn't drive cuz of taking the pain meds to make it thru the day. Now 5 days post op the pain on the right side has been resolved. There is only occassional brief pins/needles sensations. There is a patch of skin just below my elbow on the inside of my rght arm that has red raised areas that itch tremendously.I am now having moderate to severe pain in my left shoulder and upper arm. I am also experiencing difficulty swallowing except for liquids and things like pudding and jello. Have any of you experienced these things? I have a nurse coming to the house Tuesday and I hope she has some answers for me. Thanks, Dianne
Thanks, Dianne

I had acdf surgery 12/13/12. Post op I had problems swallowing for about 2 weeks. I had some tough pain days after surgery as well. The home nurse had me call dr. Because she was concerned. About 1 month after surgery. I was back to almost completely normal. Hang in there it gets better.

It is fairly common post op for cervical surgery for there to be some difficulty swallowing for a couple of weeks . If it worsens or continues to be bothersome, contact your surgeon.
