February Surgery

Just saw my Neurosurgeon. He confirmed that I have some myelopathy. I basically failed ever test he gave me:) I am scheduled to have C5 corpectomy with a C4 - C6 fusion and then right after that he will turn me over and do a C2-C7 posterior segmental instrumentation with fusion. If anyone has had a surgery similar to this or has any advice before my surgery I would appreciate it. I know that it is quite a ways away but it will come quickly and I would like to be as prepared as possible and know what to expect. Thanks:)

  • Gee
When i saw FEBRUARY SURGERY, I thought to myself, been 8 months! Must be good news!
we need good news and successful stories
Sorry so much that you have to have surgery again
    God bless
  • Actually though this is my first surgery. I have been trying for about 5 years to find a good neurosurgeon that could take care of the mess that I am:) The neurosurgeon I saw yesterday is a blessing. Such a nice man. He has had many success stories so I hope I am one of them.
  • Will pray for a successful outcome for you. How did you arrive at this point? was it an accident, injury or age related?
I will be having a 3 level c4-7 fusion but no date set yet. See the surgeon next week to get results of latest MRI to see if I can postpone for a while longer, but not likely this time...

  • Thank you. I can use all the prayers I can get. I am super scared to have this done.
No accident or injury and I am only 41. Neurosurgeon says I am way too young to have these kinds of problems. The doctors don't know how I ended up like this really. Just lucky I guess:) I have severe kyphosis and DDD, bone spurs, bulging discs. You name it I probably have it:) I have been to several doctors and spine specialists. The Neurosurgeon that will be doing the surgery is the second Neurosurgeon I have seen. He agreed with my spine specialists that this is the only way to correct what I have. My spine is just collapsing on itself. My Neurosurgeon showed me spots on my cord that are turning white, showing cord damage and says I am Myelopic. (sp).
I am sorry to hear that you will be having a fusion also. Let me know what the surgeon says and when you get a date set. Maybe we will be having surgery around the same time and can support each other through this:)
I wish you luck at your appointment and will also pray for you:)
