Having had a successful recovery from spinal fusion on Feb 2012 I am now experiencing some pain and numbness in my thighs. I had gone to see my physiatrist and gave the good news(sigh) that there is a narrow opening for the nerve root to pass. Apparently there is just not enough room so now there is irritation causing the pain. This pain has been going on about 8months now. Other than that I have regained youth since my operation.
The physiatrist wants to do oral cortisone and then an epidural if needed. Before my surgery I had 3 epis with very little success. So now my feeling is, are these conservative treatments really going to help or just delay the inevitable.Has anyone had a foraminotomy after a fusion at the Lumbar region?
I exercise ,stretch, and massage religiously since my surgery. PT I feel at this point will not help since I am doing above and beyond what they thought I was even capable of doing. I have also toyed with the idea of acupuncture but everything I read is nothing purely positive. It seems to me just treating the symptoms and not the real issue of irritation.
Before anything I too want to have an EMG to be sure it is just that and not something new.
Any words would help immensely.
