Just diagnosed

Hello, I was just diagnosed with cervical stenosis. I'm a 51 year old male. I'm presently in PT but I fear the endgame will be a fusion. Are there any success stories ending in a cervical fusion where you can go back to work? All I want to do is work until normal retirement

Welcome to Spine-Health. Here are a number of URL pointers that you will find handy

Welcome and important links: Welcome to Spine-Health

    Conditions: Condition - Sciatica

When you start to read some of those pointers, you will see how much we really want new members to provide us with as much information as possible. Think if this a mystery. we are the detectives trying to piece things together from what you give us. So, when we dont get much information, we really cant help that much. But the more you provide us, the easier it will be to respond to you with specifics.

Two things about sciatica. 1 - The root cause - A disc impinging a nerve root. and 2 - How was it diagnosed

Read up on the other article link I provided for Sciatica. Then when you get a chance, please provide us with the information that we need to help you better With this, we could just about say Take two aspirins, go to bed and call me in the morning

  • It depends on what kind of job you do. Is your current work the reason for your problems?
I had a fusion, it was the consequence of a car crashing into me at a red light and me going into the car in front of me.
I had a lot of soft tissue damage also.
I was not able to go back because my job involved heavy lifting and flexible body mechanics, which 4 years after my fusion, I still do not have.
I knew one women who was in administration for the Coast Guard who was able to go back to work. Two years later she was having more neck problems and decided to retire.
I think it depends on your work created problems for you, then it would probably not be "neck friendly"
  • Peyton Manning had a neck fusion and still works. Fusion is not the end of the world.

  • Didn't realize that the word edited out was unacceptable . I apologize
  • Is there a site you can recommend for us caregivers. I'm already on depression meds stemming from his coma last year. This new DX clobbered me big time
  • has a much higher success rate than lumbar surgery. This is partly because the higher up the spine you go, the less weight is bearing down on the repair. I had this verified by a seasoned orthopedic nurse and an orthopedic surgeon.
