New with lots of questions!

Good evening to anyone that reads this and hello. I have just joined this site as I am looking for support. If you don't mind I will post what I have been given by my doctor as I don't really understand what is wrong with me and they were in a rush and didn't explain!

I have had severe back pain for a number of years but always put off going to the doctors as twice I had been told it was solely a weight issue. I only went back a couple of months ago as the weight is now gone. Here goes:

L4/5 - 'very large central disc herniation causing severe AP and sagital canal narrowing together with compression of the transversing L5 nerve roots bilaterally'

L5/S1 - 'central disc herniation which abuts the transversing S1 nerve roots bilaterally'

L3/4 - posterior annular tear with a circumferential disc bulge.

normal marrow signal and normal conus.

Im sorry for re - writing this but if anyone could explain I would be very grateful..

What is the likely way to deal with all of this? I have been referred to a neurosurgeon but that worries me that surgery is the only option.. I have tried physiotherapy before as well as heat/ice which makes no difference to the swelling that is present.

To top it off I have just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant! I have been in agonising pain for the last 3 days as i am scared to take pain killers and I am worried about the effects to myself and the baby as i get bigger. Might i add I lost a baby at 20 weeks only 6 months ago and from 13 weeks the pain was terrible, they diagnosed me with SPD but I feel it was more my back problem

So sorry for the long essay, not really how i would normally introduce myself, but i figured i would get it out in the open!

    hey chrissielucas,
Tony pretty much said what I echo, just wait for your appointment with the N/S. Don't worry yourself what might be waiting in your future as far as surgery goes, they usually exhaust all conservative avenues before surgery is ordered.
What took me some time but was great advice from many spine issue veterans on this site was to always get at least two professional medical opinions. Your doctor(s) won't mind, insurance companies usually encourage it, and you will feel a lot better about making your decision as what to do.
    Take care,
