My 29 year old son has been told his scoliosis is at 30%. He is a former heavy drug user who used to ride a bike about 50 miles each day. He is now incarcerated, and has been clean for 9 months. He started having symptoms such as tingling, muscle issues and back problems which he thought were due to Post acute Withdrawal syndrome, but they have continued to get worse. He says a doctor in there told him it looked like 3 vertebrae in his lower back had fused (L 3, 4, and 5). He cannot stand straight because his back bends in an unnatural place. He has constant pain, and his neck and ribs pop. They are refusing to let him have even an x-ray to find out what is going on. He is scared and very despondent that he will be paralyzed by the time he gets out. I have been trying to find a doctor who could at least tell us if this "fusing" due to riding a bike is even possible or if it is something else, like the scoliosis. My son needs to know if it may be possible to correct with surgery when he comes home. If any of you have had anything similar or have any information that may help, we would truly appreciate it. We don't know where to turn for help since they won't let him have tests run. Thank you!
