I recently had cervical neck surgery. They replaced a disc and fused it. The surgery went well and the pain level is tolerable. My biggest complaint is having to wear the hard collar for 2 months and now I have to wear a soft collar for 3 months. To me it seems excessive to be wearing a collar for 5 months. I am 61 and feel that I am in good health. I have never smoked a day in my life. So 5 months in these terrible things is awful. In the hard collar I was only sleeping 3 -4 hours a night. In the soft collar I sleep maybe 5-6 hours. When I take the collar off for a half hour while sitting in a chair my neck feels much better. When I put the collar back on my neck on the sides starts to ache, and the headache comes back. Since wearing the collar I have a constant headache and neck aches and shoulder aches.
I just saw the doctor yesterday and the xray showed everything was fine. I just can't get past the 5 months of wearing a collar.
Also while wearing a collar I am not allowed to drive. Another aggravating point.
