    Hi Labznyange-
I had mine in June of 2013 and knew I had reherniated in July. I had an MRI to confirm in September. Most likely I will be having a Lumbar Fusion (L5/S1) in a few months.
My advise is to do everything your Dr advises exactly and when you are having a good day and feel like you can take on the world, act as if you are still healing and be good to yourself.

Herniation of l5 S1 l4 , DDD , microdisectomy in June 2013 and re herniation in September
Cervical herniation at C5-7 Jan 2014 with impingement of spinal cord. 2 level cervical fusion Feb. 2014 and 2 level lumbar fusion in April 2014
  • I had one on L4-L5 in 2007 and another in 2008 for L5-S1. So far, that's it. Just once each. I hope that is all I'll need but I accept that I might need more surgery in the future.

L4-L5 endoscopic transforaminal microdiscectomy June, 2007
L5-S1 endoscopic transforaminal microdiscectomy May, 2008
  • I had my first discetomy in 2008, when I was 28, and went 3 yrs before I reherniated. I had my second surgery(discetomy) in April 2011. I herniated again a year later and had L4-5 fused. I had to have L3-4 fused due to herniation 4 months later. I now have a bulged L5-S1. The doctor tells me it could go anytime. When it finally goes I will have that level fused. I am also having surgery for a permanent spinal cord stimulator on Feb 18th due to continuous pain in my legs and lower back. I guess I am one of those unlucky people that my life has turn into nothing but back surgeries. I have had 5 surgeries so far.

Discectomies 05/08 and 04/11, fusions L4-5 Feb 9,2012 and L3-L4 June 28,2012, Staph infection washout 3/2/2012, Bulged L5-S1. SCS trial on January 17th, 2014, which was a success! Permanent SCS on February 20th.
  • Is microD a long term benefit or only temporary?
