My wife has been diagnosed with failed back syndrome. She has a Medronic pain pump and SCS. She has failed to get any significant relief on fentenyl and dilaudid in the pump and the SCS doesn't help either. She is allergic to morphine.
Recently she was prescribed methadone. She is taking 30 mg/day, which seems to help somewhat when other oral opioids have not. At higher doses she becomes overly sedated.
From the research I have done so far IT methadone is rare, but I know of at least one clincal study done in 2001, that determined that some subjects were helped who had failed on the more commonly used opioids.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22151568
Does anyone have any experience or know of pain management docs doing IT methadone?
