It's official...... Re-herniation

Either left over disk fragment, re-herniation or built up scar tissue on one of the disks I had Microdiscectomy performed. They said its small enough it's not an emergency situation but got me in tomorrow morning for a pain management doc consult to get a ESI. Man when it rains it pours. :(

Re-herniation confirmed, ESI on 5/29

  • I'm sorry to read that there is a problem.........how long has it been since your micro-d? Hopefully the esi will help reduce the pain.

are microdisectomy surgeries common now? i had one done about 13 years ago with a laser and it did not work at all. in fact the pain got worse. with a laser they have to calibrate the laser and use it to burn the disc. they gave me the med where you think you are out but are not out. i woke up during the surgery and felt them burning my disc. i gave out a loud yell and the doctor said i dont know if you remember but you were yelling during the surgery. i said yes i remember yelling because i woke up when you guys were burning the disc. what do they use now if not a laser? is it successful or not?
I have 4 fusions from L5-3, the latest last May '12 where they fixed my disc that broke. They went through my side this time. I take 40 mg of oxycontin 4x a day and 4 fenatyl lollipops 300 micro gms 4x a day.
  • 10 weeks as of last Wednesday. I figured there was something wrong, I just didn't know exactly what so when I heard the news I wasn't shocked.

The herniation is 4.5 mm posterocentral and left paracentral. It also mentions 7.6 mm caudal soft tissue which I think is what they are thinking may be scar tissue or inflammation. If it worsens they will not even consider 2nd microD, they threw out the fusion word. Man being 29 years old and having this dealt to me sure does suck....
