Neck Pain - B

i have been having pain on and off for over a year. Sometimes i am ok and go to the gym or go running other times im in pain and even the strongest painkillers don't give and i cant sleep at night.

I first had an xray which shows narrowing of the vertebrates and new formations on the vertebrates

I have now also had the results back from an MRI scan which i had done private and the consultant says i have Bulging discs there was about five in a row all in my neck. He said that they have plenty of room and are not pressing on any nerves

I have now been in pain since Saturday we are now on Tuesday. I am just wondering how i can ease the pain apart from tablets like any specific exercise as i am generally active anyway .

The pain goes down my arm from my shoulder and i get a numb feeling. When i run i get the same numb feeking down the back of my legs behind my knees.

I just also wondering if this is fixable and can be repaired or if it will now stay like this or even if it will get worse.

The consultant has refereed me to intensive physio but he hasn't really explained anything to me. He said something about alignment and posture but nothing much else.

Please can anyone with similar story give me any advise as i just want to be relieved of the pain now.

I have been throught Physical therapy twice as i had 3 bulging discs. The first PT helped me a little bit and was improving but I did not feel that they spent the time to evaluate me and help me. I think my PT head was more in her vacation planning and other things. When she did finally go on her vacation I got a fellow that put me on a bike to ride for 15 minutes at first while he went on break. I was not happy! Anyway I did finish with them and they wrote me off as it not helping and the surgeon wanted to do Injections, so i did and didnt really get any relief but i wanted to try another one but my insurance declined. So that surgeon was wantin got look at surgery next and i did not want to do that so I went to get two more opinions and the 2nd said that i had 3 Herniated discs and needed surgery. I went to the 3rd one and he looked my MRI over really good and also took more x-rays. He sat me down and said that he thinks it is all from muscle issues probably created from sitting at a desk all day. Anyway he wanted to do more PT and so i am starting week 4 today. They do alot of stretches and then going to work on strengthing the muscles in the back. I can tell you that i am getting very good results from these stretches alone. I used to be at a pain level as yourself and was ready to be cut on most days. Right now I am at about a 1 or 2 on the pain scale and have alot better range in motion.

Anyway my sudjestions is PT and just make sure you are getting treated as you think you should. I never left my old PT being sore from the excersises but this one i am and it only last about two hours after i leave and then i am feeling great.

I also am taking one muscle relaxer at night and I have a good saunders home traction unit i use every day and it helps alot as well

    Best of luck to you

Welcome to Spine-Health and how to get started here

Use the above information and links as a reference guide on how to make effective threads/posts and navigating through the site.

I am not sure what you meant by having the MRI private and the consultant saw.....

I would take a copy of the MRI images and report and see if you can go to a Spine specialist. You indicated that no discs are pressing on the nerve root, which is good, but to have all those discs in trouble, that I would want more details on.

Any action plan taken would be based on all of that information. I would not start to see a Physical Therapist until you know what the problem is.

When I first started having neck problems the doctor told me to roll up a towel and place it under my neck while lying flat on the floor and let my head go back and relax. It was supposed to releave some of the pain I was in. Unfortunately that made things go haywire on me and I couldn't stand to do that for more than a minute or so. I know people that did that religously and they felt better and have never had any problems again. It would be worth a try.
