Spinal fusion recovery in young patients?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, but I've been reading messages on this forum for awhile...

I'm trying to find someone who has had a spinal fusion at a young age who would be willing to share what their recovery has been like.

I'm 28 yrs old and I just had an L4-S1 ALIF 3 weeks ago. I've had two previous discectomies (L45 and L5S1) over the course of the past 11 years. My back problems are due to athletics, but despite worsening back/leg pain for the past year, I'd managed to stay in shape. I was exercising regularly up until about 5 weeks before the fusion after which my symptoms required immediate surgery.

I'm doing much better post-surgery, but I'm very anxious about what the long-term limitations will be like. What kind of exercise and/or athletics were you able to get back to? Over what timescale?

Thanks in advance for any info!
