I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease at L4-L5 and L5-S1 and am experiencing moderate to severe pain in my lower mid-back and at the S1 joint. I'm having problems sleeping due to back and leg pain and my doctor prescribed Tramadol (50 mg) and Gabapentin (100 mg) to take at night. I'm very skittish about taking pain medication and am wondering why she prescribed these two drugs together. (It didn't even occur to me to ask her, but I plan on calling her first thing Monday morning). The more I read on the internet, the more nervous I become. I've taken the Tramadol the past two nights and didn't notice any difference. I expected it to make me sleepy, but it didn't. The instructions say to take 1 - 3 tabs as needed for pain, so perhaps I'll notice a difference if I take 2 tabs. Has anyone out there had experience with these two drugs?
