Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I'm hoping I can get some advice or information about what's bothering me.
3 years ago in August 2011 I fell 20 ft. from a tree onto my back. I was 17 years old at the time 5'3" 110 lbs.
I was hospitalized for a week. I had surgery on my elbow because it was dislocated and part of my bone chipped off. I needed some ligaments to be repaired also for my elbow.
At the same time, I had compression fractures in my L2 and L3 vertebrae. I was put into a hard plastic back brace for about 3 months.
Now, 3 years later, I suffer from chronic back pain. It is usually manageable. I know that after standing and sitting for hours, my back will ache tremendously (5 on a pain scale). However, lately I've had excruciating pain in my lower back (8 on a pain scale) that spreads to my hips and sometimes my thighs. Some nights I cannot even lie down because the pain surges to my abdomen. Today, I woke up and I couldn't even sit up or stand up. I have to drag my legs to sit up and stand up. I have been taking tylenol for pain killers and resting in bed but the aching pain is still there.
I'm wondering if I should go in for a follow up or just rest it off with pain killers? I hear back pain is relatively hard to diagnose from the doctors. I don't want to make an appointment and see a doctor just to be sent back home with pain killers.
