Miami J or Aspen

Hello All,

I have recently had a compressed fracture of C7, I am hoping to avoid surgery but the docs. are currently in assessing, although we are going for conservative treatment initially. I have been told that I have to wear the Aspen T or Miami J for the next 90 days. Any thoughts on which is better - or have one of each. My Doctor suggested trying on of each to see which I found more comfortable.

Any thoughts anyone?

Many thanks

  • I had a C1-C2 fusion and had the Miami J collar. I had to wear it constantly for 4-5 months. I do not have experience with the Aspen, but I can tell you that after wearing the Miami J for so long, my head is now kind of trained to tilt forward a little bit. This adds stress on my neck now, and my PT told me I need to really focus on standing up straight. It's difficult because my neck was stuck in the same position for so long. Also, my muscles atrophied a LOT.
Hope this helped a little. Monica

  • I had the aspen and I have tried a Miami j. I personally liked the aspen better. The Miami j has more give but it also goes up the back of the skull further than the aspen. I haven't had any problems with my head facing slightly forward. If I were you try both on and see which one fits you.
