Just wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone, I came across the site by doing a search for my back problems and I have already learned some valuable information. I am a pretty healthy 42yo that has been having back problems on and off for several years. Here lately it seems as if I am having more than less pain. But again I wanted to say thanks for this site, I have already read a few things that I am going to try to help ease my pain.

  • Hi & welcome. Have you seen a specialist for a consultation or had any diagnostic tests yet? It can be a long journey.

  • I have only been to a GP, I was sent to a chiropractor and then PT and now PT again. I had an MRI done but no real diagnosis, the only thing I could figurer out from reading the findings was DDD, which I see is something you have- (, I posted the results in the lower back forum, thank you for the support

  • To my knowledge there's no 'magic bullet' for our minds just like our pain. I've read some really interesting articles. There are studies out there that show chronic pain causes physical changes in our brains, reduced gray matter etc. just living with unrelenting pain makes it hard for me to focus & 'think' full stop!
I've read reports that state that meditation & learning new skills, hobbies etc can INCREASE gray matter. Even if it doesn't, I've found that any kind of distraction really helps me deal with my pain. Just exercising our brains is good for us & doesn't have any side-effects! Be careful of herbal suppliments. Natural doesn't always equal safe.
