Damaged transmission of nerve impulses

edited 11/21/2014 - 11:26 AM in Chronic Pain
I have i a question concerning my friend: He was mma fighter and trained in the gym...and lets just say he overtrained badly for long periods of time. Here is where the story begins: He got Coxsackie virus in 2007, it didn't attack his heart but it did the roots of nerves on the right side of back, but he trained under pain for 7 months until he was so exhausted that he could do no more. He went to doctor and they diagnosed him with damaged transmission of nerve impulses. The nerve is now cured but whenever he tries to do something even a little bit harder than usual he senses ''tingling'' or some sensation in nerves. He had big swelings in that area.Dont say ''go to doctor''.He went and they said dont do anything. I am wondering is there something that he could do to fix this issue?
